فما بقيتْ لمسكنِهِ سكينَهْ

When a man's wife dies,

When a man's wife passes away

no peace remains in his dwelling.

No peace remains in his home

وكيف يطيعُهُ نظمٌ ونثرٌ

وكيف يطيعُهُ نظمٌ ونثرٌ

ولا بيتٌ لَدَيْهِ ولا قرينهْ

ولا بيتٌ لَدَيْهِ ولا قرينهْ

And how can verse and prose obey him,

How can prose or verse obey him

when he has neither a home nor a wife?

With no home or partner of his own
