كَمْmany a شببتْkindled passion ليfor me فتاةٌmaiden
كَمْ شببتْ لي فتاةٌ
مِنْfrom وجههاher face الصبحُthe dawn يُسفرْshines forth
مِنْ وجهها الصبحُ يُسفرْ
Many a maiden has kindled passion in me,
How a maiden has enchanted me
from whose face the dawn shines forth.
The morn dawns from her face
ولوand if ملكْتُI held قياديmy reins
ولو ملكْتُ قيادي
فارقْتُهاI would leave her وَهْيَwhile she تصفرْwhistles
فارقْتُها وَهْيَ تصفرْ
And if I held my own reins,
And if I had my reins
I would leave her while she whistles.
I'd part from her as she pales
