لقدindeed بُليناwe have been afflicted بمالكيٍّwith a Maliki
لقد بُلينا بمالكيٍّ
يقدحُhe speaks ill فيof التركِthe Turks كلَّevery حينِmoment
يقدحُ في التركِ كلَّ حينِ
We have indeed been afflicted with a Maliki,
We are troubled by one who flogs the Turks,
who disparages the Turks at every turn.
at every moment straying into evil,
يضلُّhe goes astray فيin السرِّsecret وهُوwhile he يدعوprays
يضلُّ في السرِّ وهُو يدعو
لصاحبِfor the ruler of المغربِthe Maghreb المرينيthe Marinid
لصاحبِ المغربِ المريني
He goes astray in secret while he prays
though calling out for the Lord of the West,
for the Marinid ruler of the Maghreb.
