إذاwhen مضىhave passed للمرءِfor a man مِنْof عمرِهِhis lifetime
إذا مضى للمرءِ مِنْ عمرِهِ
خمسونَfifty عاشَhe lives العيشةِthe life السيئهْwretched
خمسونَ عاشَ العيشةِ السيئهْ
When there have passed of a man's lifetime
When a man reaches fifty years of his life
Fifty years, he lives a wretched life.
He has lived a most wretched existence
وإنْand if شكاhe complains قالَsays لهto him دهرُهُhis Time
وإنْ شكا قالَ له دهرُهُ
احملْbear it فليfor I have عندَكَwith you نصفُhalf المائهْthe hundred
احملْ فلي عندَكَ نصفُ المائهْ
And if he complains, his Time says to him:
And if he were to complain, time would say to him
“Bear it, for you owe me half a hundred.”
Bear with me, for you still have half remaining
