كمْmany a حاسدٍenvier لمْhas not يستبحْviolate حرمةًhonor
كمْ حاسدٍ لمْ يستبحْ حرمةً
منكَof yours ولوyet if مازحْتَهُyou jested with him لاستباحْhe would surely violate
منكَ ولو مازحْتَهُ لاستباحْ
Many an envier has not violated the honor
How many envious foes did not dare to violate
that is yours; yet were you to jest with him, he surely would.
Your sanctity, though you jested with them;
إياكَbeware أنthat تمزحَyou jest يوماًat any time فماfor nothing
إياكَ أن تمزحَ يوماً فما
يهتّكُtears away الأستارَthe veils إلاexcept المزاحْjesting
يهتّكُ الأستارَ إلا المزاحْ
Beware of ever jesting, for nothing
Beware lest you jest one day, for none rends
tears away the veils but jesting.
