فيamid الزهرِthe blossoms جاءَcame الصيامُfasting فاعترضَتْand she interposed
في الزهرِ جاءَ الصيامُ فاعترضَتْ
حبيبتيmy beloved قلتُI said لاnot أدنِّسُهُI defile it
حبيبتي قلتُ لا أدنِّسُهُ
Amid the blossoms, fasting came, and she interposed—
The fasting came when flowers bloomed
my beloved. I said, “I will not defile it.”
My beloved, I said I will not defile it
قالتshe said فخدِّيthen my cheek وردٌa rose فدونَكَهُso take it
قالت فخدِّي وردٌ فدونَكَهُ
قلتُI said سياجُthe fence of الصيامِfasting يحرسُهُguards it
قلتُ سياجُ الصيامِ يحرسُهُ
She said, “Then my cheek is a rose—so take it.”
She said my cheek is a rose, so pick it
I said, “The fence of fasting guards it.”
