لاdo not تنقلِquote النقلَthe transmitted lore تُغْلَبْyou will be bested
لا تنقلِ النقلَ تُغْلَبْ
From this day of yours onward,
After this day of yours
Do not quote transmitted lore, lest you be bested.
Do not move, you will lose
لوeven if أنكَthat you ابنَIbn (son of) خروفٍKharuf (lamb)
لو أنكَ ابنَ خروفٍ
ماnot كنتَyou would be عنديin my eyes كثعلبْlike Thaʿlab (fox)
ما كنتَ عندي كثعلبْ
Even if you were Ibn Kharuf (son of a lamb),
If you were a lamb's son
You would not, in my eyes, be like Thaʿlab (fox).
To me you'd not be a fox
