مَنْwhoever وليَtakes charge of الحسْبةَmarket and moral oversight يصبرْmust be patient علىwith
مَنْ وليَ الحسْبةَ يصبرْ على
تعرّضِthe harassment of الواقفِthe bystander والعابرِand the passerby
تعرّضِ الواقفِ والعابرِ
Whoever takes charge of market and moral oversight must bear with
He who takes on regulating morals will have patience for
the harassment of bystanders and passersby;
The mockery of the critic and the passerby.
فليسَfor no one يحظىgains بالثناwith praise والغنىand wealth
فليسَ يحظى بالثنا والغنى
فيهمamong them سوىexcept المحتسبِthe inspector الصابرِthe patient one
فيهم سوى المحتسبِ الصابرِ
for none gains praise and wealth
For he will not be praised among them, nor sung,
among them except the patient inspector.
Except the censor who bears patiently.
