Ibn Ṣaṣrā has died, by God.
The son of Sa'sa' has passed away
May God have mercy on Ibn Ṣaṣrā.
May God have mercy on the son of Sa'sa'
ماتَhas died جودٌgenerosity وسخاءٌand openhandedness
ماتَ جودٌ وسخاءٌ
وعطاءٌand giving كانَwas غَمراabundant
وعطاءٌ كانَ غَمرا
Generosity and openhandedness have died,
Generosity and munificence died
and giving that was abundant.
He was an ocean of giving
ماتَhas died صدرُleading dignitary of الشامِal-Sham لكنْbut
ماتَ صدرُ الشامِ لكنْ
لاnot يهابُfears الموتَdeath صدراa dignitary
لا يهابُ الموتَ صدرا
The leading dignitary of al-Sham has died, but
The heart of Syria has died but
death fears no dignitary.
A heart does not fear death
كانَwas بالعافينَto those seeking bounty برَّاًkind
كانَ بالعافينَ برَّاً
ولمنْand to whoever يرجوهُhopes in him بحراan ocean
ولمنْ يرجوهُ بحرا
He was kind to those seeking his bounty,
He was righteous to the virtuous
and an ocean to whoever looked to him with hope.
And an ocean to those who hoped in him
