خشونةُ أهلِ العلمِ غيرُ عجيبةٍ
وإنْand even though بالغواthey went to great lengths فيin الحفظmemorization والبحثِand inquiry والفكرِand thought
وإنْ بالغوا في الحفظ والبحثِ والفكرِ
The roughness of scholars is no surprise,
The harshness of the scholars is not surprising,
even though they go to great lengths in memorization, inquiry, and thought.
Though they excel in memorization, research, and thought.
لهمْthey have أنفسٌsouls وحشيةٌwild ماnever تأنَّسَتْfound comfort
لهمْ أنفسٌ وحشيةٌ ما تأنَّسَتْ
بجاريةٍwith a maiden تسقيshe serves drinks وساقيةٍand a watercourse تجريit flows
بجاريةٍ تسقي وساقيةٍ تجري
They have wild souls that have never found comfort
They have untamed souls that were never civilized
with a maiden who serves drinks and a watercourse that flows.
By a serving girl with a pitcher or a flowing stream.
