Your kindness, O sons of Yahya ibn Hassun,

has put all prose and verse to shame.

Barmakids have renewed the world's splendor—

men from among you, whose noble deeds would settle for nothing lowly.

The sons of Yahya were fully favored whenever they were born,

by God's care—Musa and Harun among them.

With the finest, noble-hearted one, God has added to your house

    beauty; welcome to cheerful-faced Maymun!

He is ever enamored of lofty honor and devotes to it

a pure love that treats wealth with disdain.

    والآنَ كَمْ بَيْنَ مَعْلُوم وَمَظْنُونِ

    I have always heard of every noble deed of yours;

and now—what a gulf between what is known and what is merely supposed!

Through you, the hand of Azemmour, your homeland, has grown rich.

What pearls, then, lie hidden in glory's safekeeping!

May God preserve you in good fortune, whose noble ladies

reveal to you the shining brows of maidens and matrons.

And may He return me to my homeland, grateful to you,

by my Lord's command, between the letters kaf and nun.
