حينَ سارُوا عنّي وقدْ خنَقَتْني

حينَ سارُوا عنّي وقدْ خنَقَتْني

عبَراتٌ قد أعْرَبَتْ عنْ وَلوعي

When they departed from me, choked as I was

When they left and choking tears

by tears that had revealed my ardent love,

Revealed my sorrow and distress,

صِحْتُ مَنْ ينْصُرُ الغَريبَ فلمّا

صِحْتُ مَنْ ينْصُرُ الغَريبَ فلمّا

لمْ أجِدْ ناصِراً بلَعْتُ دُموعي

لمْ أجِدْ ناصِراً بلَعْتُ دُموعي

I cried, “Who will help the stranger?” So when

I cried, “Who helps the lonely stranger?” Finding

I found no helper, I swallowed my tears.

None to give me aid, I swallowed back my tears.
