رَفَلْتُI strode proudly بابْراهِيمthrough Ibrahim فيin حُلَلِrobes of السّعْدِgood fortune
وأُفْرِدْتُand I was singled out بالفَخْرِfor honor المُؤَثَّلِdeep-rooted والمَجْدِand glory
Through Ibrahim, I strode proudly in robes of good fortune,
And was singled out for deep-rooted honor and glory.
تبنّىhe adopted حُسامَthe sword of النّصْرِvictory منّيَfrom me مُرْضَعاًas a suckling
وعُوِّصْتُand I was given in exchange (probable reading) حِجْرَthe lap of المُسْتَعينِal-Musta‘in منَin place of المَهْدِthe cradle
He adopted me, victory’s sword, as a suckling,
And I was given al-Musta‘in’s lap in place of the cradle.
فجِئْتُthus I came forth مَرينيَّMarinid المَضاin keenness لمَنِfor whoever انْتَضىdrew the sword
وإنْand though كنْتُI was مَنسوبَtraced النِّجارِin ancestry الىto الهِنْدِIndia
Thus I came forth Marinid in keenness for whoever drew me,
Though my ancestry was traced to India.
