تَتعاوَرُ القُطْبانِ منْها رُقْعَةً
وكِلاهُماand each of them فِيهاon it لَعوبٌa keen player حاذِقُskillful
وكِلاهُما فِيها لَعوبٌ حاذِقُ
The two poles take turns at a chessboard that is part of it;
The two poles take turns over it, a patch
and each is a keen, skillful player upon it.

الزّهْرَةُVenus الزّهْراءُthe radiant فَرْزانٌa vizier (chess piece) بِهاon it
الزّهْرَةُ الزّهْراءُ فَرْزانٌ بِها
والبَدْرُand the full moon شاهٌa king (chess piece) والنّجومُand the stars بَيادِقُpawns
والبَدْرُ شاهٌ والنّجومُ بَيادِقُ
Radiant Venus is its vizier;
The blossoming, the blossoming rose a carpet by it
and the full moon is its king, and the stars are pawns.
