حَلَفَswore اللَّيْلُthe night بِالثَّلاَثِby the three يَمِينَاan oath
حَلَفَ اللَّيْلُ بِالثَّلاَثِ يَمِينَا
لَيسَdoes not يَخْشَىfear فِيin مِثْلهَاone like it أَنْto يَمِينَاlie
لَيسَ يَخْشَى فِي مِثْلهَا أَنْ يَمِينَا
The night swore a threefold oath,
The night swore three oaths
with no fear of lying in an oath like this:
That it does not fear to swear such oaths
انَّكَindeed you المُعْتَنيthe one devoted بِمِيلاَدِto the birth of مَنْhim who قَاarose (first part of قام)
انَّكَ المُعْتَني بِمِيلاَدِ مَنْ قَا
مَcompletion of قام: arose بِدِينِwith the religion of الالإِهِGod وَالْحَقِّand the truth فِينَاamong us
مَ بِدِينِ الالإِهِ وَالْحَقِّ فِينَا
that you are devoted to the birth of him who arose
You are the one who cares for the birth of the one who
with God's religion and the truth among us—
Rose with the religion of God and the truth among us
رَحمَةَmercy of اللهِGod حُجَّةَproof of اللهِGod نُورَlight of الGod (first part of الله)
رَحمَةَ اللهِ حُجَّةَ اللهِ نُورَ ال
لَّهِGod (completion of الله) بُرْهَانَهHis evidence الْحَقِيقَthe true الْمُبِينَاthe manifest
لَّهِ بُرْهَانَه الْحَقِيقَ الْمُبِينَا
God's mercy, God's proof, the light of
God's mercy, God's proof, God's light
God, His true and manifest evidence.
His clear and manifest proof
ظَهَرَتemerged مِنْكَfrom you فِيهِin it أَسْرَارُsecrets of حُبٍّlove
ظَهَرَت مِنْكَ فِيهِ أَسْرَارُ حُبٍّ
جَمَعَتْunited فِيin الْكَمَالِperfection دُنْياworldly life وَدِينَاand faith
جَمَعَتْ فِي الْكَمَالِ دُنْيا وَدِينَا
In it, secrets of love emerged from you,
From you have appeared secrets of love
uniting worldly life and faith in perfection.
That combined the perfection of this world and religion
زِدْتَyou added للمَسْلِمِينَfor the Muslims فِيin الدَّهْرِthe ages عِيداa feast
زِدْتَ للمَسْلِمِينَ فِي الدَّهْرِ عِيدا
ثَانياa second يَاO مُؤمَّلَhope of المَسْلِمِينَاthe Muslims
ثَانيا يَا مُؤمَّلَ المَسْلِمِينَا
You added for Muslims, through the ages, a feast,
You added for the Muslims in time a second feast
a second one, O hope of the Muslims.
O expected one of the Muslims
لَيلةٌa night ضَمَّenfolded ثَوبُrobe of آمِنَةٍAmina فِيin
لَيلةٌ ضَمَّ ثَوبُ آمِنَةٍ فِي
جَنْحِهَاits wing الطَّاهِرَthe pure الرَّسُولَthe Messenger الأَمِينَاthe trustworthy
جَنْحِهَا الطَّاهِرَ الرَّسُولَ الأَمِينَا
A night when Amina's robe enfolded, beneath
A night whose robe held Amina
its wing, the pure and trustworthy Messenger.
In its pure wing the trusted Prophet
لَمْdid not يُنَوِّهspeak highly بِهَاof it سِوَاكَanyone but you وَقَدْand already مَرْpassed (first part of مرّ)
لَمْ يُنَوِّه بِهَا سِوَاكَ وَقَدْ مَرْ
رَcompletion of مرّ: passed زَمَانٌa span of time وَعَاقِبَand succeeded الْحِينُthe age حِينَاan age
رَ زَمَانٌ وَعَاقِبَ الْحِينُ حِينَا
None but you has celebrated it, though there has passed
None but you mentioned it though ages passed
a span of time, and one age has followed another.
And time's conclusion became a time
هَكَذَاthus يَذْخَرُstores up الإِلاَهُGod الْمَزَايَاdistinctions
هَكَذَا يَذْخَرُ الإِلاَهُ الْمَزَايَا
هَكَذَاthus يَغْبطُenvy without malice الْجُدُودُthe forefathers الْبَنِينَاthe sons
هَكَذَا يَغْبطُ الْجُدُودُ الْبَنِينَا
Thus God holds distinctions in reserve;
Thus does God hoard sublime traits
thus forefathers envy their sons.
Thus do ancestors congratulate their sons
فَارتَقِبْso await يَاO مُمَحَّدُpossibly 'exalted' (unclear form) الحَمْدَpraise نَصْراًa victory
فَارتَقِبْ يَا مُمَحَّدُ الحَمْدَ نَصْراً
بَعْدَهَاafter it ظَاهِراًplain to see وَفَتْحاًand a conquest مُبِينَاmanifest
بَعْدَهَا ظَاهِراً وَفَتْحاً مُبِينَا
So await, O [one exalted in praise], a victory
So await O Muhammad praise and help manifest
after it, plain to see, and a manifest conquest.
And a clear victory after it
وَإِذَاand when مَاemphatic particle اسْتَغَثْتَyou sought help بِاللهِfrom God كَانwill be الGod (first part of الله)
وَإِذَا مَا اسْتَغَثْتَ بِاللهِ كَان ال
لهُGod (completion of الله) فِيin مِثْلِهَاone like it الْقوِّيthe Mighty الْمُعِينَاthe Helper
لهُ فِي مِثْلِهَا الْقوِّي الْمُعِينَا
And whenever you seek help from God, God will be
And when you call upon God, God is
in such a case the Mighty, the Helper.
In the like of it the strong and helping one
