The eyelids' judgment upon my heart is binding.

How can I escape when the adversary is the judge?

And among the wonders is that love's judgments

are unjust, yet I am content with that.

O bān tree whose boughs the east wind bends

for beauty's sake, amid gardens and meadows.

The onslaughts of your gaze within hearts—you would deem them

like arrows that have sped toward their targets.

You brought forth beauty's forms in a cheek

where you mingled redness with whiteness.

And you struck my heart, healthy and unharmed,

    deliberately, with your languid eyelids.

Torment with whatever pleases you and whatever you choose

my heart, but not with rejection and turning away.

And show me kindness with a visit, O my desire,

for I have drowned in my overflowing tears.

And come, let us pledge ourselves to love, as

we were in times gone by.
