أمُسْتَخْرِجاًO one drawing out كَنْزَa treasure العَقيقِof agate بآماقِيfrom the corners of my eyes
أُناشِدُكَI implore you الرّحْانَfor mercy فيin الرّمَقِthe remaining spark of life الباقِيthat remains
O you who draw a treasure of agate from the corners of my eyes,
I implore you for mercy while a breath of life remains.
فقَدْfor indeed ضعُفَتْhas weakened عنْfrom حمْلِbearing صبْريmy patience طاقَتيmy strength
علَيْكَfor you وضاقَتْand have grown too tight عنْfor زَفِيريَmy sighing أطْواقيmy collars
My strength has grown too weak to bear my patience
for you, and my collars too tight to contain my sighs.
أُجَنُّI go mad إذاwhen جنّfalls الظّلامُthe darkness فليْسَand I have none ليfor me
سِوىexcept نَسْمَةِthe breeze of الفجْرِdawn اللّطيفةِthe gentle منْof راقِيa healing reciter
I go mad when darkness falls; I have
no healer but the gentle breeze of dawn.
ورُبَّتَماand at times اسْتَعْدَيْتُI sought help فيهاin it تَميمةًfrom an amulet
فزَعْفَرَهاand colored it like saffron بالدّمْعِwith tears كاتِبُthe scribe of آماقِيthe corners of my eyes
At times I seek the help of an amulet in that darkness,
and the scribe at the corners of my eyes colors it with tears.
