يَاO شَمْسَsun فَضْلٍexcellence سَنَاهَاher radiance لَيْسَis not يَحْتَجِبُveiled
وَالشَّمْسُand the sun تُسْفِرُunveils herself أَحْيَاناًat times وَتَنْتَقِبُand veils herself
O sun of excellence, whose radiance is not veiled.
And the sun sometimes unveils herself and sometimes dons a veil.
كَلِفْتَyou became enamored بالْبَدْرِof the full moon وَالأَقْدَارُand the fates غَالِبَةٌprevailing
تَقْفُوyou follow مَدَارِجَهُits courses طَوْراًat times وَتَعْتَقِبُand take your turn
You became enamored of the full moon, while the fates prevail.
You follow its courses at times and take your turn.
وَالْبَدْرُand the full moon يَكْسفُeclipses جِرْمَdisk الشَّمْسِof the sun عَادَتَهُas is its habit
هَذَاthis الْخُسُوفُthe eclipse الَّذِيthat قَدْindeed كُنْتُI was أَرْتَقِبُI await
And the full moon eclipses the sun’s disk, as is its wont.
This is the eclipse that I had been awaiting.
