يبْتَغي الجبْرَ للمَهيضِ الكَسيرِ
O sons of noble lords—a plea
O noble and generous people, a call
seeking to mend one crushed and broken.
Seeking relief for the frail, broken one
أناI بالحَيِّwith the living one مُسْتَجيرٌseeking refuge وبالمَيْتِand with the dead one
أنا بالحَيِّ مُسْتَجيرٌ وبالمَيْتِ
أماis there not فيin كلَيْهِماboth of them منْany مُجيرِprotector
أما في كلَيْهِما منْ مُجيرِ
I seek refuge with the living one and the dead one;
I seek refuge with the living and the dead
is there no protector in either of them?
Yet find no refuge with either of them
ليسis not موسَىMoses هذاthis بصاحِبِthe counterpart of فِرْعَوPharaoh (word begins)
ليس موسَى هذا بصاحِبِ فِرْعَو

ني ولا في عَصاهُ منْ تأثيرِ
This Moses is not my Pharaoh's counterpart,
This is no Moses, companion of Pharaoh
nor is there any power in his staff.
Nor is there power in his staff

So help me, and appoint a messenger for me,
So aid me, appoint a messenger for me
keen-edged and sound in his planning.
With sharp wit and wise judgement

Or ease my heart with despair, for I
Or soothe my heart with despair, for I
have indeed floundered in great distress.
Have struggled in great hardship
