أَعِمَادَنَاO our pillar السَّامِيsoaring الْعُلَىthe heights وَأَبَانَاand our father
أَعِمَادَنَا السَّامِي الْعُلَى وَأَبَانَا
وَمَلاَذَنَاand our refuge مِنْfrom حَادِثٍa calamity يَغْشَانَاovertakes us
وَمَلاَذَنَا مِنْ حَادِثٍ يَغْشَانَا
O our pillar, soaring to the heights, and our father,
Our pillars, lofty and sublime, and our fathers,
and our refuge from a calamity that overtakes us,
Our refuge from any misfortune that befalls us,
وَالصَّارِمُand the sword الأَمْضَىkeenest الَذِيwhich نَحْمِيwe defend بِهِwith it
وَالصَّارِمُ الأَمْضَى الَذِي نَحْمِي بِهِ
أَرْجَاءَنَاour lands وَنَرُوغُand we outmaneuver مَنْwhoever عَادَانَاhas opposed us
أَرْجَاءَنَا وَنَرُوغُ مَنْ عَادَانَا
and the keenest sword, with which we defend
And the unrelenting, supreme sword with which
our lands and outmaneuver those who oppose us:
We protect our lands and evade those who oppose us.
وَصَلَتْhas arrived نَصِيحَتُكَyour counsel الَتِيwhich قَدْindeed أَوْضَحَتْhas made clear
وَصَلَتْ نَصِيحَتُكَ الَتِي قَدْ أَوْضَحَتْ
لِمَنِto whoever اهْتَدَىhas found guidance أَنْوارُهَاits lights بُرْهَانَاa proof
لِمَنِ اهْتَدَى أَنْوارُهَا بُرْهَانَا
Your counsel has arrived, and has indeed made clear
Your advice arrived, making clear
through its lights a proof to whoever has found guidance.
To those who are guided the proof of its light.
وَالْحَقُّand truth لَيْسَthere is not لِمُنْصِفٍfor a fair-minded person مِنْany مَدْفَعٍrefutation
وَالْحَقُّ لَيْسَ لِمُنْصِفٍ مِنْ مَدْفَعٍ
فِيهِconcerning it فَإِنَّfor indeed الْحَقَّtruth أَعْظَمُgreatest شَانَاin stature
فِيهِ فَإِنَّ الْحَقَّ أَعْظَمُ شَانَا
And truth leaves a fair-minded person no way to refute
Truth is not to be turned back by any critic,
it, for truth is greatest in stature.
For truth is far greater than them in stature.
وَاللهُand God يَعْلَمُknows أَنَّنِيthat I لَمْdid not أَعْتَمِدْI intend
وَاللهُ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّنِي لَمْ أَعْتَمِدْ
فِيهَاin it لأَنْقُضَso I might demolish مِنْof عُلىًglory بُنْيَانَاan edifice
فِيهَا لأَنْقُضَ مِنْ عُلىً بُنْيَانَا
And God knows that I did not intend
And God knows I did not depend
in it to tear down an edifice of glory.
On them to demolish any structure.
كَلاَّNo indeed وَلاَand not أَعْدَدْتُهَاI prepared it لِمُهِمَّةٍfor an important task
كَلاَّ وَلاَ أَعْدَدْتُهَا لِمُهِمَّةٍ
فَأُجِيلُso I set roaming فِيin مَيْدَانِهنَّtheir arena لِسَانَاa tongue
فَأُجِيلُ فِي مَيْدَانِهنَّ لِسَانَا
No indeed! Nor did I prepare it for a weighty undertaking,
No - I did not prepare them out of anxiety
so as to set my tongue roaming in their arena.
To restrain my tongue in their arena.
يَأَبَىbegrudges لِيَme الأَعْدَاءُthe enemies أَنِّيthat I am مُقْتَدٍa follower
يَأَبَى لِيَ الأَعْدَاءُ أَنِّي مُقْتَدٍ
بِهُدَاكَby your guidance سِراًin secret كَانَbe it أَوْor إِعْلاَنَاopenly
بِهُدَاكَ سِراً كَانَ أَوْ إِعْلاَنَا
The enemies begrudge me my adherence
My enemies refuse that I take
to your guidance, whether in secret or openly.
Your guidance, be it in secret or openly.
لاَكِنَّنِيbut I كَلِفٌenamored بِكُلِّof every غَرِيبَةٍrare marvel
لاَكِنَّنِي كَلِفٌ بِكُلِّ غَرِيبَةٍ
تَحْوِيholds نُهىًwisdom وَبَلاَغَةًand eloquence وَبَيَانَاand clear expression
تَحْوِي نُهىً وَبَلاَغَةً وَبَيَانَا
But I am enamored of every rare marvel
But I am charged with all strange matters
that holds wisdom, eloquence, and clear expression.
Containing prohibitions, eloquence and clarity.
