أَيَاO لَيْلُnight أَفْرَطْتَyou have gone too far فِيin جَفْوَتِيcoldness toward me
وَعَوَّدْتَنِيand you have accustomed me مِنْكَfrom you شَرَّthe worst الْخِلالِthe traits
O night, you have gone too far in your coldness toward me,
And accustomed me to the worst of your traits.
وَمَاand not لِيَfor me ذَنْبٌany guilt وَلَكِنْand yet شُغِفْتُI am enamored
بِقُرْطِof the earring of الثُّرَيَّاthe Pleiades وَتَاجِand the crown of الْهِلالِthe crescent moon
And I have done no wrong, but I am enamored
Of the Pleiades’ earring and the crescent moon’s crown.
