    O my dear son Abd Allah, endure in hope of God's reward

    The loss of furnishings, a dwelling, and landed property.

    How can one grieve over the loss of a part,

    Who sees the whole on the path to loss?

    A target—the arrows of the nights never slacken

    In racing toward it and hastening.

    ليسَ يُنْجي منْها اشْتِمالُ حِذارِ

    One goes astray, and a second strikes true;

    No cloak of caution saves one from them.

    فمُناخُ الرّحيلِ ليسَ بدارِ

    While here, turn your concern away from this abode;

    For a halting-place before departure is no home.
