O messenger of the east wind, may I be your ransom—convey

my intense longing, if you can, and my ardor.

And carry toward the domes a greeting

whose fragrance looks down on the flowers of Najd.

Then kiss my master's palm on my behalf,

and speak of what I repeat and reveal.

And behold that beauty through my eyes,

and tread upon that dust with my cheek.

And be gentle, for it is only a whispered confidence

poured out by longing between a master and a servant.
