يُعَاهِدُنِيpledges to me دَمْعِيmy tears عَلَىto كَتْمِconcealment of سِرّهِits secret
وَيَجْرِيand it flows إِذَاwhen ذِكْرٌa mention جَرَىoccurs وَيَمِينُand an oath
My tears pledge to me to conceal their secret.
My tears pledge to conceal their secret
Yet they flow whenever a mention is made and an oath is sworn.
And flow whenever memory flows, and an oath
وَمَاand not ذَاكَthat إِلاَّexcept مِنْfrom نَجِيعِيmy lifeblood خَضَبْتُهُI dyed it
وَلَيْسَand there is no لِمَخْضُوبِfor one with dyed الْبَنَانِfingertips يَمِينُoath
That is only because I have dyed them with my lifeblood.
That is only because my wounds have dyed them
And one whose fingertips are dyed has no oath.
The wounded palm tree has no oath
