May the ruins of the tribe's encampment where you dwell be watered.
The youth who you are enamored with quenched thirst
Come with us; let us give ardent longing its due.
Come let us grant the cup its due
وَيُسْعَدُand is aided صَوْبَthe downpour of الدَّمْعِtears أَجْفَانُthe eyelids of صَبِّهِits lovesick lover

And let the rain of tears be aided by the eyelids of its lovesick lover.
And may the eyelids be joyous in the path of tears
And let Time's flanks be stroked, in hope that it
And may the sides of time be wiped

أَعِنْدَكُمْdo you have عِلْمٌknowledge بِمَاof what يَفْعَلُdoes الهَوَىlove
Will return to goodwill after its reproach.
That it may return from its displeasure after displeasure
Do you know what love does
Do you have knowledge of what passion does
إِذَاwhen اسْتَنَّruns swiftly دَمْعُthe tears of العَيْنِthe eye فَوْقَover مَصَبِّهِits outlet

When the eye's tears rush over their outlet,
When the tear of the eye flows above its outlet
And what remembrance kindles when from you blows
And what the recollection kindles when
نَسِيمٌa breeze يَغَصُّchokes المِسْكُmusk دُونَbefore مَهَبِّهِits waft

A breeze before whose waft musk chokes?
A breeze wafts from you, suffusing the musk short of its vent
And no sooner had the eye plucked a glance
It was nothing but the glance the eyelid stole
غَدَاbecame القَلْبُthe heart رَهْناًa hostage فِيin عُقُوبَةِpunishment for ذَنْبِهِits sin

Than the heart became a hostage in punishment for the eye's sin.
And the heart became hostage to the sin of its crime
And it is not just that a man commits an offense,
How can justice be that a man commits a crime
فَيُؤْخَذُand so is seized فِيfor أَوْزَارِهَاits burdens of guilt جَارُthe neighbor جَنْبِهِhis side
And the neighbor beside him is seized for its burdens of guilt.
Then his neighbor takes the blame for his iniquities
