إذا ما غرَسْتَ الخيْرَ في ابْنِ جِدارِ

إذا ما غرَسْتَ الخيْرَ في ابْنِ جِدارِ

ظَفِرْتَ بكَنْزٍ منْهُ تحْتَ جِدارِ

ظَفِرْتَ بكَنْزٍ منْهُ تحْتَ جِدارِ

If you plant goodness in Ibn Jidār,

If you plant goodness in the heart of a neighbor

you will gain from him a treasure beneath a wall.

You will reap a treasure from him beneath the wall

فشُدَّ علَيْهِ الكَفَّ ذُخْرَ مضنّةٍ

فشُدَّ علَيْهِ الكَفَّ ذُخْرَ مضنّةٍ

وأسْكِنْ بهِ الأسْرارَ دارَ قَرارِ

وأسْكِنْ بهِ الأسْرارَ دارَ قَرارِ

So hold him fast in your hand, a treasure to guard jealously,

So press your palm upon it, storing up effort

and lodge your secrets with him in an abode of lasting rest.

And settle with it your soul's abode of rest
