    If, before my death, I do not behold in you

    The fulfillment of my hopes and the ultimate aim of all my aims,

    Then the sweetness of my consolation is kept from me,

    And my eye’s delight is not revealed in my mirror.

    Beholding you is safety from the foes of my thoughts,

    And nearness to you is a safeguard against forebodings of calamity.

    فَيا حُسْنَ شاراتِي بِها منْ إشاراتِ

    So if there is no union, then grant me a sign;

    How lovely my adornments would be through such signs!
