If anyone denies rain whose source

is on earth, and which never fails it,

then the fingertips of the Banu Muzna are rain clouds,

pouring down by the grace of the one who directs them.

Thanks were given—even in their wording,

and in their meaning and their letters—

    يوْماً نطَقْتُ بمُصَحَّفِها

    by clouds, since he settled in Biskra;

one day I pronounced its altered-dot form.

    Through Abu al-Abbas smiled

the front teeth of the days’ splendor.

And the world grew unrecognizable, until

through him it was recognized in its familiar form.
