If anyone denies rain whose source

Is in the earth, and which does not fail it,

Then the fingertips of Banu Muzna are rainclouds,

Pouring down through their director’s gentleness.

They gave thanks, even through their wording,

And through their meaning and their letters—

    يوْماً نطَقْتُ بمُصَحَّفِها

    The clouds, since he settled in Biskra;

One day I uttered its form with altered dots.

Thanks to Abu al-Abbas, there smiled

The front teeth of the days’ splendor.

And the world grew unrecognizable, until

Through him it was recognized in its familiar form.
