وَقَدْ مَنَعَ الْكَرَى هَجْرُ الْخَلِيلِ
I wrote with my eye's tears upon the surface of my cheek,
I wrote with the tears of my eyes on the page of my cheek
And my beloved's desertion had kept sleep away.
And separation from the beloved prevented the fulfillment
وَرَابَand puzzled الْحَاضِرِينَthose present فَقُلْتُso I said هَذَاthis
وَرَابَ الْحَاضِرِينَ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا
كِتَابُthe book of الْعَيْنِthe eye يُنْسَبُis attributed لِلْخَلِيلِto al-Khalil (also: to the beloved)
كِتَابُ الْعَيْنِ يُنْسَبُ لِلْخَلِيلِ
It puzzled those present, so I said: “This
It confused the onlookers, so I said: this
is the Book of the Eye, attributed to al-Khalil.”
Is a book from the eye attributed to the beloved
