والليْلُand the night قدalready مدّspread عَلَيْناover us الجَناحْthe wing
I said to the bell in Martush,
while night had spread its wing over us:
أغْرَبْتَyou have gone to extremes طولاًin duration ياO غُرابَraven of الدُجىthe darkness
فلَمْand did not تَرَyou see اللّيلَةَtonight عنّاfrom us بَراحْany departure
You have gone on far too long, O raven of darkness,
and tonight you saw no departure from us.
فخُذْso take heed علَىfor نفْسِكَyourself لاdo not تَغْتَرِرْbe deceived
قدalready حرّكَhas stirred الجُلْجُلَthe small bell بازيthe falcon of الصّباحْdawn
So take heed for yourself; do not be deceived:
the falcon of dawn has already set its bell ringing.
