بَأَوْتُI rose proudly عَلَىabove زَمَنِيmy age هِمَّةًin ambition
فَأَعْتَبَنِيso made amends to me الزَّمَنُtime الْعَاتِبُthe reproachful
I rose proudly above my age in ambition.
I wandered in my time with determination
So reproachful time made amends to me.
Yet time, the blamer, blamed me
وَشَرَّفَنِيand honored me اللهُGod فِيin مَوْطِنِيmy homeland
وَفِيand in بَيْتِهِhis house يَشْرُفُgains honor الْكَاتِبُthe writer
And God honored me in my homeland.
And God honored me in my place
And in his house the writer gains honor.
And in His house the writer is exalted
