قد زرت قبرك يا أبا الشرف

قد زرت قبرك يا أبا الشرف

فنثرت ذر الدمع من أسف

فنثرت ذر الدمع من أسف

I have visited your grave, O Abu al-Sharaf,

I visited your grave, O noble father,

And scattered fine drops of tears in sorrow.

And scattered tears of sorrow.

ما كنت إلا درة طبعت

ما كنت إلا درة طبعت

من محض ومن شرف

من محض ومن شرف

You were but a pearl fashioned

You were but a pearl of pure nature

From purity and from nobility.

And honor undefiled.

لم تقدر الأيام قيمتها

لم تقدر الأيام قيمتها

فاسترجعت صوناً إلى الصدف

فاسترجعت صوناً إلى الصدف

The days did not appreciate its worth,

Time could not value your worth-

So it was returned to the shell for safekeeping.

So to its shell, unspoiled, you returned.
