غضِبَwas angry الإلاهُGod علَىwith بَنيthe sons of عيْسِʿAys
غضِبَ الإلاهُ علَى بَني عيْسِ
وعلىand with منِwhoever اشْتمَلَتْit encompassed عليْهِupon him منْof تَيْسِa he-goat
وعلى منِ اشْتمَلَتْ عليْهِ منْ تَيْسِ
God was angry with Banū ʿAys,
The god was angered with the clan of Esa
and with every he-goat it harbored.
And with those whom were associated with the he-goat
ماnot كانwas رأييmy decision فيconcerning المَبيتِspending the night بِهاin it
ما كان رأيي في المَبيتِ بِها
عنْfrom فِطْنَةٍdiscernment منّيon my part ولاnor كَيْسِgood sense
عنْ فِطْنَةٍ منّي ولا كَيْسِ
My decision to spend the night there did not spring
My opinion was not to spend the night with her
from discernment on my part, nor from good sense.
