انظُرْ خِضابَ الشّبابِ قد نصَلا

انظُرْ خِضابَ الشّبابِ قد نصَلا

وزائِرَ الأُنْسِ بعْدَهُ انْفَصَلا

وزائِرَ الأُنْسِ بعْدَهُ انْفَصَلا

Look: the dye of youth has faded,

And the visitor of joy has departed after it.

ومَطْلَبي والذي كلِفْتُ بهِ

ومَطْلَبي والذي كلِفْتُ بهِ

أمَّلْتُ تَحْصيلَهُ فَما حصَلا

أمَّلْتُ تَحْصيلَهُ فَما حصَلا

And my aim, and that which I was enamored of—

I hoped to attain it, but it did not come to pass.

لا أملٌ مُسْعِفٌ ولا عمَلٌ

لا أملٌ مُسْعِفٌ ولا عمَلٌ

ونحْنُ في ذا والمَوْتُ قد وصَلا

ونحْنُ في ذا والمَوْتُ قد وصَلا

No hope offers aid, nor is there any action;

And we are in this state, while death has already arrived.
