أَلَمْDid you not تَدْرِknow أَنَّthat اللِّحَىbeards فِيon الْخُدُودْthe cheeks
أَلَمْ تَدْرِ أَنَّ اللِّحَى فِي الْخُدُودْ
شِعَارُthe badge of الْعَنَاءِsuffering لِباسُthe garb of السَّخَطْwrath
شِعَارُ الْعَنَاءِ لِباسُ السَّخَطْ
And did you not know that beards upon the cheeks
Did you not know that beards upon the cheeks
are affliction’s badge, the garb of wrath?
are the badge of suffering, the garb of wrath?
وَآدَمُand Adam لَمْdid not تَبْدُappear فِيon وَجْهِهِhis face
وَآدَمُ لَمْ تَبْدُ فِي وَجْهِهِ
بِدَارِin the abode of الْكَرَامَةِhonor حَتَّىuntil سُخِطhe incurred wrath
بِدَارِ الْكَرَامَةِ حَتَّى سُخِط
And on Adam’s face they did not appear
And on Adam's face they did not appear
in the Abode of Honor until he fell under wrath.
