Jaʿsūs’s funeral occasioned a strange event:
Favor passed that carcass by and stepped over it.
وجاءَand came بِهاwith it فَسْلانٍtwo wretches يَشْتَتِمانِهاboth cursing it
وجاءَ بِها فَسْلانٍ يَشْتَتِمانِها
الىto المَحْرثِthe field الغُفْلِuntended الجَديبِbarren فحطّاهاthen they both set it down
الى المَحْرثِ الغُفْلِ الجَديبِ فحطّاها
And two wretches brought it, both cursing it,
To the untended, barren field, where they set it down.
ومرّand passed بِهاby it قِطٌa cat أنيسٌtame فشمّهاthen sniffed it
ومرّ بِها قِطٌ أنيسٌ فشمّها
وأسْرَعَand hastened فيin ضمgathering التّرابِthe earth وغطّاهاand covered it
وأسْرَعَ في ضم التّرابِ وغطّاها
And a tame cat passed by it and sniffed it,
And quickly heaped up earth and covered it.
