O driver of camels,

turn aside toward Salé;

قدْ هامَ بالجَمالْ

قَلْبي وما سَلا

indeed, enthralled by beauty

is my heart, and it has not forgotten.

عرِّجْ على الخَليجِ

عرِّجْ على الخَليجِ

والرّمْلِ والحِمَى

والرّمْلِ والحِمَى

Turn aside toward the bay,

and the sand and the sanctuary,

في المَنْظَرِ البَهيجِ

في المَنْظَرِ البَهيجِ

بالبِيضِ كالدّمَى

بالبِيضِ كالدّمَى

amid the delightful scene,

with fair women like figurines,

والأبْطَحِ النّسيجِ

والأبْطَحِ النّسيجِ

منْ صَنْعَةِ السّما

منْ صَنْعَةِ السّما

and the pebbly plain, woven

by the handiwork of heaven.

للّهِ منْ خِلالٍ

للّهِ منْ خِلالٍ

تخْتالُ في حُلَى

تخْتالُ في حُلَى

God be praised for such qualities,

parading in adornments!

لمْ تُلْفِ في اعْتِدالْ

لمْ تُلْفِ في اعْتِدالْ

عنْهُنّ مَعْدِلا

عنْهُنّ مَعْدِلا

You have not found, in perfect proportion,

an alternative to them.

وطُفْ منَ الرِّباطِ

وطُفْ منَ الرِّباطِ

برُكْنِ طائِفِ

برُكْنِ طائِفِ

And from Rabat, make a circuit

around a pilgrim's corner,

بمَنْزِلِ اغْتِباطِ

بمَنْزِلِ اغْتِباطِ

دارِ الخَلائِفِ

دارِ الخَلائِفِ

at an abode of delight,

the dwelling of the caliphs,

مُقَدّسِ المَواطي

مُقَدّسِ المَواطي

جمّ المَعارِفِ

جمّ المَعارِفِ

sacred in its pathways,

rich in learning.

كمْ منْ سنا هِلالٍ

كمْ منْ سنا هِلالٍ

بأفْقِهِ انْجَلَى

بأفْقِهِ انْجَلَى

How many a crescent's radiance

has shone upon its horizon,

أنْحَى على الضّلالِ

أنْحَى على الضّلالِ

فانْجابَ وانْجَلى

فانْجابَ وانْجَلى

assailing error,

so it dispersed and cleared away!

جَنَى النّعيمِ دانِ

جَنَى النّعيمِ دانِ

والبَحْرُ والغَديرْ

والبَحْرُ والغَديرْ

The fruit of bliss is close at hand,

and the sea and the pool;

أهِلّةُ الشّوانِي

أهِلّةُ الشّوانِي

في أفْقِهِ تَسيرْ

في أفْقِهِ تَسيرْ

the crescents of the galleys

sail along its horizon.

وقَهْوَةُ الدِّنانِ

وقَهْوَةُ الدِّنانِ

يُديرُها مُديرْ

يُديرُها مُديرْ

And the wine of the casks

is passed around by a cupbearer,

أغَرُّ كالغَزالِ

أغَرُّ كالغَزالِ

مُقَلّدُ الطّلا

مُقَلّدُ الطّلا

radiant as a gazelle,

with an adorned neck,

يسْطو ولا يُبالي

يسْطو ولا يُبالي

بالأسْدِ في الفَلا

بالأسْدِ في الفَلا

who pounces, heedless

of lions in the wilderness.

أوْلَى إلَيْكَ أوْلَى

أوْلَى إلَيْكَ أوْلَى

منْ ذِكْرِ معْهَدِ

منْ ذِكْرِ معْهَدِ

Better for you, far better,

than recalling a haunt

أكْثَرْتَ فيهِ قوْلا

أكْثَرْتَ فيهِ قوْلا

في كلّ مشْهَدِ

في كلّ مشْهَدِ

of which you have spoken so much

at every gathering:

خُذْ في امْتِداحِ موْلَى

خُذْ في امْتِداحِ موْلَى

ندْبٍ مؤيّدِ

ندْبٍ مؤيّدِ

take up the praise of a lord,

gallant and upheld,

مُمَجّدِ الجَلالِ

مُمَجّدِ الجَلالِ

مُشَهّرِ العُلا

مُشَهّرِ العُلا

of exalted majesty,

of renowned eminence,

قدْ فاقَ في كَمالِ

قدْ فاقَ في كَمالِ

وراقَ مُجْتَلَى

وراقَ مُجْتَلَى

who has surpassed all in perfection

and is lovely to behold;

مُوافِقُ الخَليلِ

مُوافِقُ الخَليلِ

في الإسْمِ والسِّماتِ

في الإسْمِ والسِّماتِ

matching al-Khalil

in name and traits,

ذي المَنْظَرِ الجَميلِ

ذي المَنْظَرِ الجَميلِ

الرّائِقِ الصّفاتِ

الرّائِقِ الصّفاتِ

of beautiful appearance,

of exquisite qualities,

مُكرَّمِ الدّخيل

مُكرَّمِ الدّخيل

ومُجْزِلِ الهِباتِ

ومُجْزِلِ الهِباتِ

whose protected guest is honored,

and lavish in gifts,

ومُحْسِبُ النّوالِ

ومُحْسِبُ النّوالِ

لمَنْ توسّلا

لمَنْ توسّلا

and giving bounty in abundance

to whoever seeks his favor,

ورافِعُ المَعالي

ورافِعُ المَعالي

سُحْباً مُضَلّلا

سُحْباً مُضَلّلا

and raising lofty honors

as clouds casting shade.

يا مَنْ عُلاهُ درّتْ

يا مَنْ عُلاهُ درّتْ

بكُلِّ نائِلِ

بكُلِّ نائِلِ

O you whose eminence has flowed

with every gift,

خُذْها إليْكَ جرّتْ

خُذْها إليْكَ جرّتْ

ذيْلَ الخَمائِلِ

ذيْلَ الخَمائِلِ

take it to yourself; it has trailed

the hem of luxuriant groves,

وفي حُلاكَ أزْرَتْ

وفي حُلاكَ أزْرَتْ

بقَوْلِ قائِلِ

بقَوْلِ قائِلِ

and, in praising your graces, has eclipsed

the words of one who said:

يا مَنْزِلَ الغَزالِ

يا مَنْزِلَ الغَزالِ

حُيّيتَ منزِلاً

حُيّيتَ منزِلاً

"O dwelling of the gazelle,

hail to you as a dwelling!

فَما أرَى بسالٍ

فَما أرَى بسالٍ

عنْهُ وإنْ سَلا

عنْهُ وإنْ سَلا

For I do not think I shall forget

him, even if he forgets."
