    فشانِيكَ مخْذولٌ وراجيكَ منْصورُ

    Your station in this world and in religion flourishes;

    So whoever hates you is forsaken, and whoever hopes in you is granted victory.

    فَها هوَ ممْدودٌ عليْكَ ومقْصورُ

    In you the praise of every virtue has reached its height;

    So here it is, extended over you and confined to you.

    As though the glories of the age were registers,

    And praise of you their correction and marginal ornament.

    حَباها منَ اللّطْفِ الإلاهيِّ تدْبيرُ

    Your statecraft safeguards the affairs of the realm;

    A dispensation of divine grace has endowed it

    With a swaying, branchlike frame, tender in its youth,

    A favored one, with influence in the world of being.

    Its tongue's sharp tip pronounces decisive judgment,

    And speaks clearly in its exposition, though it is severed.

    All-embracing in bounty, even with the water of its youth,

    Generous, thanked by the mouths of gifts.

    And in both its states, it is sought for aid and feared.

    Its writings leave the champions of the battalions

    With their necks bowed and their eyes turned aside.

    And ruler and ruled fear the misery it brings.

    And it is a wonder that its bounty can be won,

    So it tastes sweet as honey, though in shape it is a wasp.

    As though the tongue of time were the breath of its reed,

    Interpreting what the decrees of fate have concealed.

    When its branch sways in the garden of parchments,

    The verse and prose of eloquence shower down.

    You would think the page's dawn were inscribed with night's darkness,

    And camphor is patterned with musk whose fragrance is released.
