بِنَفْسِيwith my soul as ransom غَزَالٌa gazelle فِيin ثَنَايَاهُhis front teeth بَارِقٌa lightning-flash
وَلَكِنَّهَاand yet they لِلْوَارِدِيِنَfor those who come to drink عِذَابُsweet
My soul be ransom for a gazelle with a lightning-flash in his front teeth;
yet they are sweet to those who come to drink.
إِذَاif كَانَthere is لِيfor me مِنْهُfrom him عَنِfrom الْوَصْلِunion حَاجِرٌa barrier
فَدَمْعِيthen my tears عَقِيقٌagate فِيin الْجُفُونِthe eyelids مُذَابُmelted
If a barrier from him keeps me from union,
then my tears are agate, melted within my eyelids.
