لَمَّاwhen رَأَوْاthey saw كَلَفِيmy infatuation بِهِwith him وَدَرَوْاand knew
مِقْدَارَthe measure مَاwhat لِيI have فِيهِfor him مِنْof حُبّيmy love
When they saw my infatuation with him and knew
the measure of the love I bear him,
قَالْواthey said الْفَتَىthe youth حُلْوٌsweet فَقُلْتُso I said لَهُمْto them
طَلَعَتْhas risen حَلاَوَتُهُhis sweetness عَلَىupon قَلْبِيmy heart
they said, “The youth is sweet.” So I told them,
“His sweetness has dawned upon my heart.”
