رَفَلْتُI strode proudly بابْراهِيمthrough Ibrahim فيin حُلَلِrobes السّعْدِgood fortune
وأُفْرِدْتُand I was singled out بالفَخْرِfor honor المُؤَثَّلِdeep-rooted والمَجْدِand glory
Through Ibrahim I strode proudly in robes of good fortune,
And was singled out for deep-rooted honor and glory.
تبنّىhe adopted حُسامَthe keen sword النّصْرِof victory منّيَin me مُرْضَعاًas a suckling
وعُوِّصْتُand I was given instead (apparently عُوِّضْتُ) حِجْرَthe lap المُسْتَعينِof al-Musta‘in منَin place of المَهْدِthe cradle
He adopted me, the sword of victory, as a suckling,
And I was given al-Musta‘in’s lap in place of the cradle.
فجِئْتُso I came forth مَرينيَّMarinid المَضاin keenness لمَنِfor whoever انْتَضىunsheathed
وإنْeven though كنْتُI was مَنسوبَascribed النِّجارِin lineage الىto الهِنْدِIndia
So I came forth Marinid in keenness for whoever unsheathed me,
Even though my lineage was traced to India.
