Take it—the spittle-water of a smiling orange blossom,

drawn from atop a fresh garden bough.

I have offered it to you as perfume, though

I know you are the very fragrance of perfume.

Have you ever seen the daughter of a bottle and of blossom-spittle

offered to a qadi by Ibn al-Khatib—a preacher’s son?
