ماnot رِيءَwas seen مِثْليَmy like فيin الماضِيthe past ولاnor الآتِيthe future
فَريدَةًa peerless jewel جَمَعتْhas brought together ماwhat بَيْنَbetween أشْتاتِscattered things
My like has never been seen in the past, nor will it be in the future.
A peerless jewel that has brought scattered things together.
أناI العَروسُthe bride منَof الرّيْحانِsweet basil ليfor me حُلَلٌrobes
والبَهْوُand the hall تاجيَmy crown والصِّهْريجُand the pool مِرْآتيmy mirror
I am the bride; robes of sweet basil are mine.
And the hall is my crown, and the pool my mirror.
قَدْindeed قُمْتُI have stood منْfrom خَلْفِbehind دارِhouse of السّعْدِfelicity خادِمةًas a maidservant
فَكُنْهُso the essence of حاليَmy condition أنّيthat I ياO أُخَيّاتِيmy little sisters
I have taken my stand behind Dar al-Sa‘d as a maidservant.
So the truth of my condition is that I, O my little sisters,
خَديمَةٌa maidservant منْfrom among بَناتِdaughters of الرّومِthe Romans واقِفَةٌstanding
رَفَعْتُI have raised منْfrom فَوْقِabove رأسيmy head بِنْتَthe daughter of مَوْلاتيmy mistress
Stand as a maidservant, one of the daughters of the Romans.
I have raised my mistress’s daughter above my head.
