Clouds of tears poured from your lover's eyelid,

When he breathed in the east wind from your quarter.

How can a heart forget you, O my paradise,

That went mad with love for you before existence?

Then say: how was it after the rapture of the

spirit through your delightful companionship and nearness?

It never left your house, whose sanctuary is impregnable,

For any other, save for the house of your Lord.

Accept my excuse, for I have done nothing unprecedented.

May you endure; generosity and goodwill are your wont.

And if you claim anguish at losing me,

How do my anguish and loneliness compare with yours?

My son is in your shelter, my nest in your

groves; my grave and my dust are in your soil.

O Time, who set separation on all I held together,

If only I had made my preparations for war against you!

Your turns of fortune made me ride an unruly mount, until

You brought parting, the hardest of your hardships.
