O lion of the arena, a hopeful man's plea:

Through your hand comes mighty victory over fate.

I have become dependent on noble men; so take charge

of my affairs as a peerless, magnanimous, freeborn man would.

And you are the one who has excelled in every arena

of generosity and courage, in the prime of life,

along with illustrious lineage and lofty virtues,

along with judgment, sound understanding, and poetry.

By your life, the vizierate knows none worthy of it

but you—an oath sworn without fear of sin.

And it is one like you who cares for one like me, for indeed

noble deeds are enamored of my praise and my thanks.
