جاءَتْكَshe came to you تعْرفُyou recognize بالشّميمِby the fragrance سُراهاher journey by night
جاءَتْكَ تعْرفُ بالشّميمِ سُراها
كرُمَتْwere noble عناصِرُهاher elements وطابَand was sweet ثَراهاher soil
كرُمَتْ عناصِرُها وطابَ ثَراها
She has come to you; by her scent you know her journey through the night.
Her elements are noble, and her soil is sweet.
لمّاwhen بعَثْتُI sent بِهاher تورّدَturned rosy خدُّهاher cheek
لمّا بعَثْتُ بِها تورّدَ خدُّها
واحْمَرّand reddened منْfrom خَجَلٍbashfulness لديْكَin your presence عَراهاovertook her
واحْمَرّ منْ خَجَلٍ لديْكَ عَراها
When I sent her, her cheek turned rosy,
And reddened with the bashfulness that overtook her in your presence.
فاقْرأْso recite علَيْهاover her عوذَةa protective charm لجَمالِهاfor her beauty
فاقْرأْ علَيْها عوذَة لجَمالِها
واجْعَلْand make لِقاءَكَyour reception بالقَبولِwith acceptance قِراهاhospitality offered to her
واجْعَلْ لِقاءَكَ بالقَبولِ قِراها
So recite over her a charm to guard her beauty,
And offer her your accepting welcome as hospitality.
