أمِطْ عنْكَ مهْما اسْطَعْتَ كلَّ إرادَةٍ

أمِطْ عنْكَ مهْما اسْطَعْتَ كلَّ إرادَةٍ

وإلاّ فمعْنى القوم عنْكَ بَعيدُ

وإلاّ فمعْنى القوم عنْكَ بَعيدُ

Cast off every desire, as far as you can.

Cast off from yourself whatever strong will you display,

Otherwise, what the people mean is far beyond you.

Or else the essence of the people is far away from you.

تكونُ مُريداً ثمّ فيكَ إرادَةٌ

تكونُ مُريداً ثمّ فيكَ إرادَةٌ

إذا لمْ تُرِدْ شيئاً فأنْتَ مُريدُ

إذا لمْ تُرِدْ شيئاً فأنْتَ مُريدُ

You are a seeker, yet desire remains within you.

You would be a desirer, then a will in you,

If you desire nothing, then you are a seeker.

If you desire nothing, then you are a desirer.
