أَيَاO لَيْلُnight أَفْرَطْتَyou have gone too far فِيin جَفْوَتِيyour harshness toward me
وَعَوَّدْتَنِيand you have accustomed me مِنْكَfrom you شَرَّthe worst of الْخِلالِtraits
O night, you have gone too far in your harshness toward me,
and accustomed me to the worst of your ways.
وَمَاand not لِيَfor me ذَنْبٌany fault وَلَكِنْbut شُغِفْتُI am enamored
بِقُرْطِwith the earring of الثُّرَيَّاthe Pleiades وَتَاجِand the crown of الْهِلالِthe crescent moon
And I am guilty of nothing, but I am enamored
of the Pleiades' earring and the crescent moon's crown.
