يَهْنِيكَmay it gladden you مَقْدَمُarrival عَبْدِservant of الْوَاحِدِthe One ابْنِكَyour son عَنْafter
يَهْنِيكَ مَقْدَمُ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ ابْنِكَ عَنْ
مَطْلٍdelay بِوَعْدٍin fulfilling a promise مِنَfrom الأَيَّامِthe days مَرْقُوبِawaited
مَطْلٍ بِوَعْدٍ مِنَ الأَيَّامِ مَرْقُوبِ
May the arrival of your son ‘Abd al-Wahid gladden you after
the days’ delay in fulfilling an awaited promise.
كَيُوسُفٍlike Joseph كَانَwas فِعْلُtreatment الزَّمَانِtime بِهِof him
كَيُوسُفٍ كَانَ فِعْلُ الزَّمَانِ بِهِ
وَكُنْتَand you were فِيin الْبّثِّanguish وَالشَّكْوَىand lament كَيَعْقُوبِlike Jacob
وَكُنْتَ فِي الْبّثِّ وَالشَّكْوَى كَيَعْقُوبِ
Time dealt with him as it did with Joseph,
and in anguish and lament you were like Jacob.
